For as long as I can remember, my things disappear and then reappear. Sometimes things appear and stick around long enough that I start thinking of it as mine and then it disappears.
Well, life happened, I got a divorce, moved back to WI, and bought a house for my birds. They are too noisy for apartment life. The house is great. I'm comfortable here and can go anywhere in it at any time. With the new house, I decided that I wasn't going to get a land line since I have a cell phone that gets great reception in the house.
In the last year several things have gone and come back, including the garage door opener. That was gone for months. It came back June 13th. I found it on a shelf in my bedroom closet, wrapped up nicely in one of the kitchen towels. Yeah, I don't quite get that one either.
On June 15th my cell phone disappeared. It was in my pocket at 2358 on the 14th. I know because I put it there. By 0007 on the 15th it had vanished. I looked every place I could think of with the flashlight. I made multiple trips to my brother's to check behind the piano, a dresser, their computer, the couch cushions and in their bathroom. I cleaned my car (the last place I had the phone). I even went out with my flashlight at 0010 on the 15th and did a slow sweep of the area around my car, under my car, and the lawn between my car and the door. Nothing! The phone has a hot pink cover, so it isn't like it would blend into the the gray dirt and stones in my driveway.
I bought another cell phone on the 18th of June. On June 25th, I went grocery shopping. On my second trip out to the car to carry in a load, there was my old cell phone. It was on the driveway and I would have had to physically run over it to get in and out of the driveway. The outside had a layer of caked mud over half of it, and the other half of it was covered with wet dirt. When I opened it up, the key pad was soaked and slimy. There were no tire tracks on it and it hadn't rained here in a couple of days.
So, where does stuff go, and what is happening to it? I live alone, I don't have children and my birds don't mess with my stuff. I would have had to grudgingly accept that it fell out of my pocket except for the fact that the bottle of nail polish and wad o tissue would have had to come out first and they were still in my pocket.
