(combination of some I had written down with new added)
I have been thinking about all the things that have happened to me and my family. So many I probably won't remember them all. And definitely not in order. so forgive me as I write them as things come to mind...and if I come back with more random remembrances!
This house it seems is pretty 'busy'. It is the house my husband's father built in the early 70's not long before he died from brain cancer. His family is the only one who has lived here. Both of us have lost many family members, including me also losing my father very young...I was 4. All of us here have seen the shadows out of the corner of our eyes, We have smelled things but never at the same time. Cigarettes....they were both smokers. Each of us here, and we have 4 kids, too...have smelled the cigarettes at different times, in different areas. I often will smell 'old lady' perfume too. One time my husband wanted to know when the blueberry muffins would be done. I wasn't cooking anything. One night I was woke up by a very loud man's voice saying my name. I got out of bed to look and no one was there. that I could see. My daughter has been woke up by her name too and once it reminded her it was 6 a.m. and time to get up. She has awoken and seen a man sitting in a chair watching over her...once holding a newspaper. Once my husband and I had both placed our keys on the counter. Both sets disappeared. and we looked everywhere for them. I often wonder why we weren't supposed to leave at the time. A couple of weeks later something 'told me' to look in a bread box in the cupboard. There were Tom's. Then I walked over and reached behind some cookbooks. I have a lot of them as I collect them. Sure enough , there were my keys.
Not long ago I was in my kitchen and stepped out for less than a minute. When I went back in, every single one of the cupboards was opened exactly the same amount...and I have a lot of cupboards!
My mom passed away two days after Christmas in 2007. We were called in the day after. At one point Tom saw 'someone' right outside her window...and she was on the second floor. Just a very short time before she took her last breath, my sister and I were sitting on the opposite bed, the only ones in the room. The young nurse came in for a second and left. I smelled the strongest stinkiest old lady perfume ever. I said to my sister, WHY would someone who worked in a hospital with mainly older people wear something so strong? and so stinky! She asked me what I was talking about. She didn't smell anything. I thought DUH..it won't be long now. I am pretty sure it was my grandma letting me know she had come to take her daughter home.
My son drew a picture of my mom after that. That picture traveled his room so many times.
I worked at a place once that was in an old Frank Lloyd Wright building..it had been a hotel many many years before. I had an office across from one of our mechanics and we had glass windows. We were talking one day and as we did, a picture of his dogs lifted off his desk and went flying across his office. Even when I was alone there, I never was! I would walk down to the bathrooms that had very large heavy doors and as I would reach for the handle the door would slam shut. My niece was there once and waited outside the door to the ladies room, when her mom asked her why she didn't go in, she said she was 'waiting for the lady in there' you know it-there was no one in there.
I have a son with a disability..he is on the autism spectrum and I KNOW he has an ability to see and hear things we can't. He often talks to his grandfather...and when asked it is always my dad. One day he was sitting at the kitchen table with me and starts giggling and says. "There is grandpa" I ask where. He points to the empty chair and says There is Grandpa right there." He kept laughing for a bit. I have been told my dad was quite funny! He will often leave his room and tell someone "I will be right back" One time he says..."Helen I am just getting water" Helen was my mom's name.
I often wish I have written down everything that has happened here. Not just the normal lights on and off, things like that that do happen...but all of it. I have tried to buy myself a digital recorder wanted so much to do some EVP recording here, but so not willing to invite a bunch of spirits that might see that as there opportunity to come visit too!
Oh I also remember right when I brought each child home from the hospital after they were born, I knew they had been visited. Whether it was this 2 day old was completely turned in the crib or covered with a blanket they weren't when I put them down. It happened to all 4 of them but each was in a different way. I liked to think that maybe their grandpa was coming to say hello!
(see told you I would remember things randomly and now my nephew is calling..so hopefully more later)
Already remembered one more! A couple weeks ago I was in the kitchen and my son was in the living room with my nephew...who is not yet two so he needs watched. I turned because I 'saw' Daniel walking from the chair across the living room towards the hallway. I yell in there. "Daniel I told you to watch C! He says.....I AM..he is sitting on my lap. I walk in the living room and sure enough...he hadn't moved. First time I saw an actual full body! He was tall and slim, like Daniel so I am sure that is why I thought it was him.
This summer my daughter was out driving for driver's ed and the weather turned nasty. I was so nervous. I walked across the kitchen to the entryway to look out the door to see if she was home. Daniel said he watched a white figure following me....but it was like it floated and had not legs...just more like a white mist. (okay that was two more)
See already thinking of more.
Recently, I found a charm given to me on a Christmas in 1977 in the washer! It was engraved , that is how I know the year. This has been away in a jewelry box for years. It was a gift from my mom . On the same day, my sister's dying phone dialed MOM!
Again, Jamie (son with disability)...I was recently also cutting his hair and he said "grandpa is right there." I said where? "He's right there." I say, which one. Grandpa John or Grandpa Jim. He says. "Grandpa John" Yup, MY dad!
A few weeks ago I was sitting at my computer and heard footsteps in the hallway, early...everyone else in bed still. I looked up to see who was up-no one! So I went back to the computer screen and heard them again. Got up, turned on the light...and no one again.
Was a rough night, morning....I was standing in my kitchen and missing my mom. I said out loud, "I wish mom was here." My only glass cupboard doors in there have a folded up piece of paper in them, tight...to keep them closed. As they have been forever. As soon as I said here, those doors flew open and that piece of paper was across the room by the sink where I was standing!
I got the message!!
I did remember another thing or two also that has happened.
I headed down the basement not long ago to see just how messy my oldest's room was. It was just C and I an of course, I was carrying him. We were right under the living room..and what do I hear. Footsteps again. So much so we came back up to check it out. Of course no one was there.
Don't know why I havent heard them ever before this couple of times....anyhow, the footsteps were too heavy to be our cat, who has been gone a couple years now and who, btw, I think is visiting too....he used to open this one cupboard door in the bathroom all the time. Lately I will go in there and it is always opened....I could leave and go back in and it will be open....
my sister brought c to drop off like always and we were sitting for a few, like always before she left for work...behind her is our big 13 foot long window....suddenly we hear two loud knocks on it.....I look out..No one there of course...and out in the country I would definitely see someone or a car. No one.
Jamie and I were in the kitchen, it was about the time for my sister to get here. I heard our back entry door open...and I am waiting to see her and c. Nothing. So I go back there. Door is shut and she isn't even here yet. Jamie was wondering where C was as he heard the door too!
