Sounds like a man saying 'oh' and then it merges in with your team member so I cant make anything else out - that is if the first bit is 'oh'

We believe this voice is speaking french or the old Iroquois indian's language that does sound alot like french. We are currently trying to find a member of the tribe that speaks the old language. The problem is that not many of the Iroquois are still in this area and they don't seem to know the old language.

Mmm..I can hear a bit more of the man's voice now - doesnt sound like english like you say. Does remind me of french. Can anyone who speaks french have a listen first? That way if it isnt french it can be discounted.
Are there any universities around that study the old Iroquois language? They may be able to help. I know I cant decipher it - sorry I know thats no use to you.

This was recorded at a confidential location. What I can tell you is that a great Indian battle was fought at this location in the late 1600s and the Iroquois Indian nation lost this battle and about 400 warriors were slaughtered.

OK, so Im not that up on my American history, are we talking about around the time the Dutch, French or British were there? If its the French then it could be french, but I have a funny feeling they were there around the 1700s - please do not hesitate to correct me if Ive got that wrong. Its a long time ago since I did American History.

The area around Sault Saint Marie ("The Soo"), including Whitefish Bay, has been called the "Heartland" of the Chippewa Indians. This tribe is also called Ojibwa, and sometimes refer to themselves as "Anishinabeg," which is their word for "original people." The Iroquois lived about 400 miles away, mostly in what is now western New York. In the 1600's these nations were at war, at least in part because of European influence and fur trade competition. The Iroquois often sent expeditions far from their homeland and attempted to control the trade routes leading east from the Great Lakes. Accounts of an important battle in 1662 have been passed down for over 300 years. They tell how an Iroquois war party camped , and how the Chippewa secretly watched their movements and mounted a surprise attack near dawn. The Iroquois were defeated decisively, and apparently never again ventured this far west. In 1662 a group of Iroquois traveled about 400 miles by canoe and foot from their homeland in western New York to the shores of Lake Superior. The local Chippewa defeated them in a battle. from accounts it is said that the Iroquois lost the entire war party of 400 worriors in the battle.
