Now, I know there is an area for discussing equipment, but I wanted YOUR personal opinion on this one. What two pieces of equipment should I buy, in the $200 range, that would allow me to begin investigating for myself? I don't need brand names, can check the other board for opinions on that, but would like your thoughts on what would be most valuable to a new investigator on a limited budget.

(I know it's different from your question, but you might wanna check out Brian's response in the "What should I buy as a starter kit" thread, under Tools of the Trade. I'll quote it below... This is the tools I have at my ready every time I go out for a hunt. This is all I use and all anyone ever needs to b e a paranormal investigator. The high end stuff is just for show. 3 D cell Maglight MalMeter Digital and analog audio recorder Ambient air temp gauge Digital camera 7.2 mega pixel or less Disposable 35 mm camera and sometimes a mini dv video camera Thats it my friends. 638 cases and counting and thats all I use. and now I'll leave this for Brian Just thought you might be interested in it in the meantime.)

Ah HA...He's already answered it, then. I have to admit, I haven't read all the threads yet. Playing catchup late in the night when everyone else is sleeping. However, even reading the starter kit, I'm needing to know the MOST URGENT AND IMPORTANT TWO... I only bring home a bit under $400 every two weeks, and I support myself on that, so every penny has to count. I don't mind going without to buy equipment, but each piece has to be carefully considered.

I know, that's the part I'm leaving for him to answer I just figured in the mean time you could look over that list for good prices and all. A few of them are rather cheap after searching a bit online! I've put together a list of them that I want to get, soon, too... once money starts actually coming in.

The best advice is to remember that "Simpler is better." Almost all reported instances were personal and experienced by someone with out any equipment. No need to go out and buy expensive equipment that will give you the same results as the less expensive ones. So too the fact remains that the more sophisticated a piece of equipment is, the more room for problems and mistakes. Always keep in mind that if a person saw it with their naked eye then even a disposeable camera will catch it. If a person heard it with their naked ears then it was physically there and can be picked up by an inexpensive recorder. The expensive complicated items just opens everything up for false positives. However, to each his own and buy what you want. Just remember the most important thing is to know your equipment.
