What voice recorder would you say is the best for use while investigating to capture evp,s or what do you prefer to use?I currently use two which are a panasonic RR Dr 60 and also an Olympus VN-2100 with external mic.i have had a great deal of success with both.

I prefer the Olympus 4100PC, it has great quality for recording and very easy to get files to the computer.
Watching Ghost adventures last night I saw that they used a couple of them. Have also seen Taps use them (And Sony Recorders).

I use the Olympus ws-100. its easy to use and your able to wear headphones while you record. I ve been able to hear replies to my questions during a investigation. also im able to hear sounds you normaly wouldnt had picked up and I note that during the recording so i know later when i review my recordings so it wont be confused being a evp. will see them used on paranormal state also. I didnt buy it becuase they had it, i bought because im able to wear head phones during the recording. Have captured some great evp's with it and been using that model for over 3 years now.

Ive got an olympus DM-20 which has always worked well for me. Its got an external mic with a clip. Ive never used the mic. Can anyone tell me if you get a better result from using the mic or not? And what should it be clipped onto if anything??? Surely if its on clothes its going to pick up rustling noises from the clothing but if you dont clip it to something and are carrying it around wouldnt there still be noises from where your hand moves about?
Advice would be much appreciated.

During An EVP session I use several ZOOM H2’s. I use the Olympus 4100PC with clip on mic to record the entire investigation. If you clip the mic on the outside of your clothing, the sound will be very clear.

I use two olympus 4100PC and have captured great results with it, i always record at low quality for better white noise. I also use a sony IC ICD-UX70. quite pricey at 100 dollars but it records left and right audio separately. I record at highest quality with it and have picked up some amazing things, but not as much as my olympus.

I've had decent recordings on my Olympus as well...trouble with the low settings is you get a lot of aliasing do to the poor sample rates. The recorders don't know quite what to make of any background noises they pick up through all the background chatter (white noise) they pick up as well. Raises the chances of hearing what sounds like speech when it's really just a jacket rustling or something very mundane. I'd suggest always using the highest setting if you have to use a standard digital recorder.

Olympus WS-100 Easy to use but lacks the memory to record on high quality setting for an entire investigation. Olympus WS-300 also easy to use and has plenty of memory. It has built in stereo microphones that will indicate on the screen what direction the sound is recording from. Olympus VN-4100 is easy to use and also has plenty of memory. These recorders are all PC compatable and easy to use. whether they are the best is hard to say. They are BPIs preference due to the ease of use and high quality recording capability that makes audio review a little easier. The price is resonable and that is important because we don't charge for investigations.

Have to watch the lower settings. The sample rate is so low that the recorder can misinterpret noises and after they are converted can sound completely different.

I use a simple RCA that I bought at wal-mart for like 35 dollars. It has proven great! I tend to stay away from external mics because they seem to yield more static.

"I gotta get me one of those"
