Every year I go with my mother to the cemetery to plant flowers on Memorial day. The cemetery is very old and every year when we are there, I smell a very strong odor of something dead and rotting. I am not the only one that smells it. The first year, I just assumed an animal had gotten hit on the road and crawled into the nearby woods and died. The second year, I just assumed the same....but this is at least the 5th year and it happens every time. Has anyone else ever noticed anything like this in a cemetery? Could just be a lot of road kill I guess Just thought it was strange.

This might sound strange, but is there a sewage treatment station near there, or a plant that might be burning or releasing something chemical in nature that could smell...like a paper plant or something of the sort? It might be an extraneous smell coming from a location near the cemetery rather than in it.

Good thinking, but no I don't believe so. It is a very rural area with no factories. I don't even think they have public sewage out that way. It isnt a sewagey (I know, probably not a word ) smell, definitely rotting flesh.
