Ghost Adventures this past Friday used a spirit voice box. The spirit speaks through this box and sounds mechanical. I heard a long time ago that researchers were testing some sort of box that did this to communicate with the other side. I also read this in a book I still have. I believe its called 'The Ghost of 29 MEGA-CYCLES' by John G. Fuller. Does anyone know anything about this box, and if this could be the same thing?

They are all based off of a similar chip set, and can be purchased for a semi-reasonable price. They are all variations of a device known as the Ovilus (around $199). They use electromagnetic input from the spirits and convert it into speech. The Ovilus (I think) only has about 500 words in it's vocabulary. The puck and other variations of the ovilus work in different ways, but accomplish the same thing. There are also software packages now (CrossTalk EVP maker) that claim to turn your laptop into a spirit communication machine, although I have had very little luck with this myself.

Ghost boxes, Shack Hacks, and anything else that claims to allow spirits to manipulate radio or EM frequencies to communicate through them are nothing more than ideas created by researchers turned into money making scams. They've all been busted by those with knowledge of their workings, and yet Christopher Moon is still charging $500 a half hour to let you talk to your dead granddaddy via his "telephone to the dead". Nothing more than a scam...I suggest never even consider buying any of these things.

I was quite surprised to find out that our group has a Frank's Box. We didnt use it on our investigatio this weekend (we had problems with our walkie-talkies as it was). The jury seems to be still out over here about the usefullness of this gadget. It reminds me of the film White Noise - Im going to assume its based on a similar theory?

We had the chance to use the Ovilus at a case, it wasnt ours, we borrowed it from another group we are friends with. Can't say I was impressed, and the prices of these and similar units are outrageous. Needless to say, this won't be on our purchase list!

I was looking online to find where you can purchase an Ovilus, I saw that one site isn't selling them anymore because they were focusing on an Ovilus as an I-Phone App. I wouldn't feel comfortable using a phone to investigate at all.

An ovilus as an app? That sounds really odd. Why would they make it an app? Are they aiming to make the I-Phone an essential piece of paranormal hunting kit?
If not, what other uses does it have (not the I-Phone, the ovilus app.)

I still want an ovilus myself. I have used Franks Box and it brought my deceased uncle through. No one in the room knew about him so I knew it was for real.
