I was wondering. Could a residual haunting still have the capability to change the temperature, trigger off an emf detector, or actually move an inanimate object like an intelligent haunt? Since a residual is nothing more than an old movie that keeps repeating itself, physical occurrences such as the ones I mentioned above shouldn't be possible, correct?

Theoretically it cannot move objects, but it can trigger EMF and cause temp changes.

that's a good question. So much to think about! I've never had experience with one, so I don't know...but would like to find out someday! Have you had experience with one Pamela?

No, I haven't. It would be an interesting experience. If a residual can't move objects since it actually doesn't really exist, how can it still cause temperature fluxes and emf's? Does it still create some kind of energy?

Residual is an energy based haunting as is all hauntings. It takes energy to manifest any activity. A residual is a recording of the past, theoretically its the personal energy of a person or group that is released right after death, usually a traumatic event occured and this energy is imprinted on the area. Most haunting are of the residual type.

There is no confirmed data that a residual haunting even exists. It seems like what people have witnessed of this type of haunting is more comparable to a time loop. Like on your computer when you loop the video feed. If this is so then these types of anomalies would not be classified as a haunting. Because the event is actually taking place as on your computer. It has to do with time, not haunts.

You will find that there is no confirmed data on anything in the paranormal field. The paranormal field is a conglomeration of conjecture, theories and hypothesis’s. Nothing proved but a lot gained (over time). Choose a theory and use that in your research to find data. If the theory is sound then continue or go to the next.
“theoretically it’s the personal energy of a person or group that is released right after death,”
This is a common miss-conjecture about a residual anomaly (place memory). There are cases of place memories being active while the parties involved are still living (please refer to Loyd Auerbach case studies) The Gettysburg battlefield area is known for residual anomaly’s. Did the battle details become imprinted into the environment after the soldiers died or did it happen during the high emotional state of the individuals caused by the battle? I would say the latter, but this is only conjecture (back to the beginning of this post).

This goes to show that there are NO accuracies in the paranormal field, these are all theories. We have 3 different answers, does this mean we are wrong? no, this simply means that we have different views......This is how we gather info....I like this....

So nice to see folks agreeing to disagree, so to speak, on a forum.

Interesting: “theoretically it’s the personal energy of a person or group that is released right after death,” I can see where this can be assumed. Then again what is to catch the energy? Whats holding it? Does this energy move or stay in one place? If it does stay in one place what are the atmospheric conditions which are trapping this energy so it is played back just the way it happened when it happened in real time. Why does not this trapped energy move with the atmosphere as it moves around the planet? Is this energy intelligent? Or is it just energy with no intelligence? You see if residual haunts are trapped energy by some emotional condition of the person or persons before dying or even living. Logically speaking we in real time, would be witnessing massive residual haunts all the time. But we do not.

Now this is where another theory comes into play. The event is implanted into the environment by an agent (living person) possessing some unknown factors or physic skills. What they see is what is recorded. This could mean that the place memory is only viewed from the same vantage point as that of the original agent. This could explain why some can see it and some cannot. (Right place at the right time). The ability could be very rare and requiring the right environment to record the event. When looking back at some of the reported cases of place memories, the events are mostly mundane actions (woman walking into the kitchen, person crosses the street..Etc) things that are viewed in everyday life by all of us.

I can see this theory. I am just trying to figure out what the thought or the memory is recorded onto. This is what is incomplete with this theory. Plus if the thought or memory is recorded, what is keeping the thought or memory from breaking up through the vast time expansions, as like radio waves break up in the atmosphere.

There was a great show on Nat Geo last night about pole shifts and the wobble of the Earth. One portion of the show explained that when the Earth wobbles on it's axis it can greatly vary the field strength at different points on the surface. Maybe certain areas, where these fluctuations are highest, are the catalyst for whatever is allowing past events to play over onto modern day, or vice-versa? It may also explain poltergeist activity as these field eminations, from what they showed, can be quite strong and actually influence people and the environment itself sometimes.
So many ideas, so little headway. But as long as we keep coming up with ideas and "what ifs" we will always have new ways at trying to figure out how to better research locations.

This is a good point, which I never considered. It might not be the magnetic forces that cause it, but the speed of which the Earth spins. When it wobbles, part of the Earth will basically be traveling faster than the point on the opposite side of the globe. If you take Einstein's theories, and throw a little string theory in there, it could be possible for a time loop to occur. Maybe I watch too much Doctor Who, but it does make sense in my head.....
