Howdy, all! Greetings from my corner of The Deep South (about 40 mins. east of Atlanta)!!! ;D
First, I have to confess that I'm the world's biggest chicken, LOL, and never can sleep in a pitch-black room, LOL! Chicken-ness not withstanding, I'm absolutely fascinated by true ghost/haunting stories, investigations, and the like. I watch GH, GHI, Paranormal State & Ghost Adventures every week like clockwork, LOL. I don't like fictional ghost stories and scary stories and such, but find the 'research' & 'documentary' type shows very interesting and informative - have learned quite a lot.
When I was a kid, the house I grew up in (for the most part - 8 years we lived there, from when I was 5 to 13) in Tucker, GA, had what I now believe to be a residual-type haunting. My bedroom was directly at the top of the (carpeted) stairs leading from the marble/tile/whatever foyer to the bedrooms on the second floor. Each night, I'd hear heavy bootsteps walking up and down the stairs, over & over again. Never went down the hallway, just up & down the stairs. As a little kid this never scared me much, because I figured it was just my father (who was 6'4" and a heavy walker). But as I got older, the last 2-3 years in the house, I realized something: the footsteps only happened very, very late at night (or very early morning, depending how you look at it, LOL), when I knew for a fact that (a) my father was asleep in his room, and (b) my mother was also either asleep in their room, or passed out into a complete martini/vodka/whatever oblivion on the couch downstairs and decidedly NOT moving around (not that she would have sounded like heavy bootsteps anyway, had she been stumbling around somewhere). sometimes I heard what sounds like the clicking of a dog's toenails on the tile foyer, trotting along next to the footsteps. Easily explainable as my dog, except (a) for many years, I did not have a dog and (b) when I did have a small dog, it slept with me in my room, and I often heard the dog downstairs, at the same time when my dog was WITH me. Once I felt a dog jump on the bed, turn around three times and lay down to go to sleep... and my one & only dog, Sam, was asleep on the floor beside me. didn't realize this till I went to pet "Sam" when (I thought) he jumped on the bed ---only to find an empty space where I felt a dog, LOL. That's about the extent of my experiences there - nothing else weird happened that I know about, and certainly nothing actually tried to "interact" with me that I know of. Never got touched or had things flying around, etc. It was essentially just like a tape recorder, over & over again, same thing... very residual like, at least for the footsteps.
We moved from that house when I was 13, and all the places I've lived since have been ghost-free. (Or, if they are around, I don't know it, and I'm fine with that, LOL! )
However, as I said before, I am absolutely fascinated by all of this, and would absolutely adore the opportunity to go on a "real live" ghost hunt sometime (I'm much braver when I'm not alone, LOL!). ;D I love history, and living here in The South, we sure do have plenty of that to go around. My great-great-great grandfather also fought for the 34th Ga. Cavalry during the War Between The States, so I guess that sorta makes history - esp. during that time period - even more fascinating for me. Yep, i'm a super-curious person and love to explore all manner of mysteries and such... with someone else, or several someone elses, LOL! Hubby and I did go down to Savannah (where I'd dearly love to live one day) in July for his birthday and stayed at the 17Hundred90 Inn..... Did have a couple things happen there (my experience was a really weird - and moving - cold spot; hubby has absolutely forbidden me to talk about his for some reason, but whatever..... I'll save 'my' part of the 1790 Inn story for another post, since this one is getting ridiculously long, LOL ).
When I'm not watching a variety of paranormal tv shows (or "Criminal Minds," or "CSI NY" or "Law & Order"), I'm working full time as a legal secretary (with an absolutely hideous commute), taking care of my four kids & dog, volunteering for a couple non-profit organizations (one I serve as President/founder of), active in our church, jogging, and reading voraciously. Sometimes I even sleep. ;D
Anyway, that's about it for me.... looking forward to meeting everyone!
