Thank you Kristy Hinkle for writing this and making this known to all of us!!!
See below for photos!!!
When an investigator joins their very first paranormal group, usually they are extremely proud just to be a part of a group of people that have the same or similar interests as they do.
When a person forms their very own team and gathers team members who work well together and come up with their very own techniques and methods of investigating, they take pride in that!
There are many ways I have seen over the years to show your pride for your team and your friends. I know of some who have it on their license plates, decals on their car windows and the ever popular matching tee's and hats. Let's not forget the decals on their equipment cases or even a branding on their mobile laptops! These are some ways teams show pride in their group to the public and the Paranormal Community.
Other ways are more creative, such as the starting and designing of their very own website or maybe a group MySpace page and Facebook group. They could create photos using PhotoShop, that is taken of a location that they have investigated, then insert their teams Logo onto the picture. Or maybe they're someone who is a bit more creative, creating pictures from scratch. They can come up with so many neat designs and different lettering.
These are very acceptable ways in our country to express yourself, express pride in what you do and in your friends.
These are very different than what I have come across. After receiving a friend request on MySpace yesterday, I did what I typically do. I went to the profile of the prospective friend just to get a little info on the person. Such as their interests and things like that.
This person had several photo folders of locations he and his team had investigated. Those who know me, know that I love looking at investigation photos, I love the old places that I have yet to see in person.
I came across a photo that made me cringe!
This is what I found, I wasn't going to post these, until Joni found a second one, ON THEIR OWN PAGE
Not wanting to believe a real group had done this inside a place called The Old Atlanta Prison Farm.
An abandoned prison in Atlanta Ga.
I googled the name of the team on the wall. I found their MySpace page. I decided to look around for photos of this same prison, and I found they had been there. I tried to come up with an explanation for them, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Then my friend Joni caught something on their page that I had missed in my furry.
Joni found this posted on this teams page
The next photo was brought to my attention by Polly of Reapsowradio also found on their groups MySpace page
Pic #3 brought to my attention by Polly... Notice the G.P.S on the right door and again, smaller, on the left
This is getting RIDICULOUS, this is the same prison, these are photos of different walls inside the prison.
I decided to attempt to contact the owners of the prison and I found this on another teams Myspace
Same Prison, another different wall, photo taken by yet another team.
I think we are beyond speculation at this point.
There are just somethings you do not do in this field, and this is one of them.
Whether it's an abandoned prison or hospital, you just do not do this.
A lot of the old locations in our country are being restored and there are people attempting to save these old buildings for historical reasons. A lot of them using their own money, or donated money to do so.
Coming from a family who owns one of the very few historical homes left in our town, I can only imagine my reaction if I were ever confronted with this sort of disrespectful act!
I think here I would have to threaten violence! If anything ever happened to my families property, I think... No I KNOW, that the person(s) responsible would be looking down the other end of my ever popular tire iron *just ask my former stalker what that feels like!* I assure you its not pleasant.
The construction of my families home was completed in 1826, the home has changed hands many times over the years but has never left the family. This property (all 90+ acres of it) is one of the last strongholds in the area from builders of housing developments.
The first time I saw, Prospect Place mansion, a building who's construction was completed in 1856; 30 years after my family home, I was floored at the damage caused by the local vandals. Teenagers who had, over the years, destroyed this place. Breaking fireplace hearths, breaking windows, leaving the home exposed to the weather, painting and carving their names into walls. In 30 years of standing empty, the locals had nearly condemned the property!
Then a savior came. George Adams. The last living descendant of the property builder. He purchased the property with some difficulty from the Longaberger company and began the very long and slow process of restoring his families legacy.
This costs money, LOTS of money. George took on this task and in the process he has learned that it was more of an undertaking than he anticipated.
Prospect Place is coming along now, thanks to generous donations and the help of the Paranormal Community. Interest in the place has skyrocketed the information about the destruction from coast to coast. They have been featured on Ghost Hunters as well as Ghost Adventures. Though many do not approve of this (I myself was exceedingly disappointed in the G.A. crew) it has brought national attention to a once dying location.
Last night Polly from Reapsowradio discussed this team on the show, and the shameful act they are accused of in this prison.
She was confronted by a man who thinks that we are 'over reacting' to this disgraceful act.
He said 'it's just a shitty old prison, what's the big deal?'
I have just told you in my own words why this is a big deal to me. Restoration of old buildings takes a lot of time and even more money than one could ever imagine. The cost is so much greater when there is a lot of vandalism and a severe lack of respect is shown to these places.
An act of vandalism such as this, makes not just their team, but the entire community look bad!
Do you think that people are going to want to allow investigators into their buildings if even one team does this? They would be worried about another team following suit.
A spray paint version of a Pissing Contest!
Many Paranormal Investigators respect historical locations, many are very interested in the history.
Some groups go out of their way to show respect, such as my team and GIG paranormal, who have a habit of cleaning up after other groups when we go into a location.
Dis guarded batteries, trash etc. We have come across some pretty nasty things in our travels, but we clean it up, not knowing who is responsible, gently grunting to ourselves and each other about the lack of respect these teams are showing these places.
To any (and all) people who share this mans opinion of this just being a 'shitty old prison' Then I must say to you, you are following the WRONG hobby. If you are not outraged by this. You need to find a new hobby. If you think it's 'cool' to spray paint or 'tag' a location with your teams insignia, if you are an old fart who still behaves like you belong in Middle School, and have nothing better to do with your time than destroy Cemeteries, prisons, hospitals etc.
If you have a teenage mentality, but are too old to be IN High School.
Then my advice to you, get away from the Paranormal, do not affiliate yourselves with people like us, and go drink beer in your garage with like minded geysers, still wearing their Letterman's jacket, and whining to each other about how time flies and how you miss the old days.
Those of us affiliated with the Paranormal, we (as in me and my like minded comrades) don't want you here! If you have nothing better to do than disrespect locations and the people who own them, get another hobby, because we don't want you here.
I have not even begun to get angry in this Note.... But I think I have made a point here.
There is a difference between Pride and Ignorance!!! What I've shown you here... is ignorance.
This team... Ghost & Paranormal Seekers will never be a part of the Paranormal Community where I am concerned. Any who choose to affiliate themselves with this team, sorry, but you will also be on my 'do not associate' list!
Teams like this are a black stain on the community. Making all of us look like hooligans and felons; and for me, that is all I need to know about this team. I am not looking for excuses from this team. In fact, I am looking for justice for the Old Atlanta Prison Farm. Yes there is a lot of destruction in this place from local teens and adults, but that does not give ANYONE the right to make it worse!
In 2009 the prison caught fire. Causes unknown. Is it reaching to think that it was started by vandals? I don't think so. The article I read stated the fire dept. believed it was started by a homeless person. This could be true, but there is no proof that there were homeless people in the area, or in the prison other than a few 'reported sightings' (sounds like a big foot report to me)
Even in Ga. Vandalism is illegal.
www.criminal-law-lawyer-source.com/terms/vandalism.html
In all 50 states there are laws set in place to protect locations from this crime.
How long will it be before someone is driving down a road way in Ga. and see's a giant G.P.S. spray painted on an overpass or a free way sound barrier wall?
